LDAT CoP background and framework

This guide provides LDATs with a single reference point for all things Community of Practice (CoP). It covers a background of why the ADF is implementing a Community of Practice, how it links to the strategic plan and links to practical information to help LDATs become more familiar with Community of Practice.

Importantly, LDATs have the ability to provide their own topics of interest.

This guide is a living document and will continue to expand and evolve as new materials are developed.

ADF CoP background

The 2020 LDAT mid-point evaluation identified a need for a Community of Practice (CoP) to support LDATs to increase knowledge, promote collaboration, connection, and resource sharing.

The CoP has been designed using the LDAT evaluation and will be supported by the Community Advisory Council (CAC) for ongoing guidance and recommendations.

Topics are identified based on LDAT needs and interests and will be collected and assessed for prioritisation prior to and throughout implementation.

The Community of Practice aligns to the ADF’s Strategic Priority 2: We enable change. It also aligns to Strategic Priority 3: We are capable.

ADF Knowledge Management Framework

A Knowledge Management Framework has been developed to set up the CoP model, supporting both LDATs and ADF staff.  The CoP can be run in multiple formats and modes allowing for a sustainable and adaptable learning process.

This is dependent on the needs of staff and LDATs, married with identified areas of concern or need attained through reporting and business needs.

Common ways to learn can be separated into three categories: informal, semi-formal and formal.
