Measuring success - Peer Support
Some example measures of success and tools to measure success for peer support activities are provided. You may find these a useful starting point for measuring the success of your activity.
Process measures
- Engagement with (xx) community organisations over the first three-months of the peer support activity to assist in establishing access to peer leaders to participate in the peer support training
- Recruitment of (xx) peer leaders to participate in the peer support activity over (xx) month period
- Conduct (xx) peer support training sessions within a six-month period for (xx) of peer leaders
- Recruitment of (xx) peers to participate in the peer support activity over (xx) month period
- Support (xx) peers through (xx) peer support activity over (insert time) month period.
Impact measures
Post peer support training (survey completed by participants pre/post training)
As a result of completing the peer support training:
- (xx) of peer leaders demonstrate an increase in knowledge of harms associated with risky drinking and drug use
- (xx) peer leaders report an increase in confidence to engage with young people as peer leaders.
Short-term impacts of peer support training (one month after training):
- As a result of the completing the peer support training, (xx) peer leaders will have interacted with (xx) young people to apply their learning from the peer support training
- Through engagement with (xx) peer leaders, (xx) young people will demonstrate and increase in knowledge of harms associated with risky drinking and drug use
- Through engagement with (xx) peer leaders, (xx) young people will report feeling increased levels of self-confidence
- Through engagement with (xx) peer leaders, (xx) young people will report experiencing positive social connections in their community.
Longer-term impacts of peer support training (six months after training):
- Six months after the peer support training, (xx) peer leaders will have increased the number of interactions they have with young people as a result of ongoing engagement with the peer support activity.
