Mentoring toolkit overview

The following toolkit provides an overview of Mentoring, with the aim of guiding you to implement this approach in your Local Drug Action Team (LDAT)

Mentoring is a positive relationship between a knowledgeable mentor and a less knowledgeable mentee.

It can facilitate open discussions about alcohol and drug use, strengthen various aspects of a young person's life, and act as a protective factor against substance abuse.

Mentoring programs can be individual or group-based, conducted face-to-face or online, and tailored for ages 7-25.

Natural and youth-initiated mentoring also exist.

These programs aim to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors associated with alcohol and drug use.

Toolkit Includes:

  • Key points for LDATs
  • Drawing on existing programs
  • Guiding principles
  • Considerations for planning and delivery
